Fire Alarms for Commercial Properties

Saving lives through fast fire detection

Fire alarms are a legal requirement in most commercial properties – and it’s easy to see why. By detecting fires early, they provide life-saving time for emergency service to respond, and your people to escape.

Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, all commercial buildings in the UK must have an ‘appropriate fire detection system’. By law, your fire alarm system must be ‘adequately maintained’ at all times, and serviced by a ‘competent person’ at least every six months.

As fully-certified members of the institute of fire managers, CFP’s active fire protection team can take care of all this and more. Read on to discover how we can help keep your people safe, and your business compliant.

Commercial Fire alarms: how can we help?

Your fire alarm requirements depend on the outcomes of your Fire Risk Assessment; your first step to fire safety compliance.

During this assessment, our experienced fire experts will review your Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP). This includes inspecting your existing fire alarm system.

Our experienced fire alarm engineers can then:

  • Determine the category of alarm you need, based on the nature of your premises, its contents and the level of risk, in accordance with your Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP)
  • Carry out any remedial work to your fire alarm and detection system, in accordance with the Fire Safety Order 2005
  • Provide all the necessary documentation you need to prove fire safety compliance
  • Advise on weekly fire alarm testing, including written test certificates, to ensure you continue to fulfil your legal responsibilities
  • Carry out routine fire alarm inspections at least every six months, in accordance with British Standard BS 5839

Your Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP)maintenance

A Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP) is a written document and diagram,  depicting compartmentation in your building, escape routes, and the action to be taken by all your staff in the event of fire. It must include action on hearing your fire alarm, details of all escape routes, and arrangements for calling the fire brigade.

As a legal requirement for most commercial buildings, it’s vital your FEEP is completed by a qualified fire safety professional. At CFP, all our fire risk assessors are fully-certified members of the Institute of Fire Managers, so you can be confident your FEEP is completed to the highest industry standards.
